Did you know that Australia accounts for over 95% of the world's supply of opal? Well, these miners do, and in this documentary series we follow groups of brave and persevering souls as they scour the land in search of the precious and highly valuable gemstone. With many of the mines located in the desolately deserted Outback, the crews must face some of Australia's most treacherous landscapes if they are to hit the jackpot. The six crews have to weigh up the consequences in these old and hazardous mines, often risking their lives in search of opal wealth, not to mention preventing opportunistic thieves from snatching their hauls.
