John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson star in director Tod Williams' horror, from screenplay adapted from his own novel by Stephen King. It's a normal day at Boston International Airport, with travellers on their way to and from their destinations, and airport, airline and security staff going about their business, and most of them using their mobile phones. Among them is Clay Riddell (Cusack), who's talking to his estranged wife and their young son, until his battery dies and he switches to a payphone. The inconvenience saves his life: just as his cash runs out, everyone using a mobile device around him receives an electronic pulse that causes agony and then turns them into uncontrollable ultraviolent killers. Clay narrowly escapes the mayhem and finds shelter in the paralysed subway system below the airport, where train driver Tom McCourt (Jackson) offers to lead the survivors to safety on foot. But the incident is a nationwide phenomenon, so getting out of the airport is just the start of their battle to stay alive.
